Gearing Up Your Home for a New School Year

In just a couple of short weeks, school will be back in session for the 2025-2026 school year! If you have little ones heading back to school soon, you’ll want to make sure your home is organized and prepared for a busy year ahead. Here are a few tips to help you kickstart the year to get off to a great start!

Prepare Designated Homework Spaces
Find a quiet corner in your home’s main area, or, in your child’s bedrooms (if they are old enough to complete their homework independently) for your children to complete their classwork in. The space should be free of other distractions (electronic devices, not in view of a television, etc.), and should be a quiet space where your child can concentrate completely. Stock the space ahead of time with extra supplies like pencils, pens, notebook paper, erasers, and a calculator so that your child has everything they’ll need to complete their assignment without having to leave their space multiple times.

Organize Your Mudroom
Make sure your child has a place to hang their backpack, lunch box, coats or jackets, and a place to keep their shoes that they plan to wear to school. Having these items in a standard location will help alleviate the stress of trying to get out the door in the morning.

Clean Out Old Clothes from Closets and Dressers
With a new school year comes new school clothes! Be sure to clear out old clothes that your child has grown out of or are worn out before putting away their new clothes to avoid cluttering up their closet spaces and to make it easier to find their clothes for school in the morning.

Organize Pantry with Snacks for After School and Lunches
If you’ve been a parent for a while, you know that when your kids come home from school, usually the first thing they request is a snack. Designate a space in your pantry with healthy snacks for your child to grab when they arrive home from school easily, or, that you can grab to pack their lunches with.
