How to Prepare Your Yard and Home Early for Spring

Although our region saw more snow over the weekend, temperatures are expected to return to average or above average in the coming weeks. With March right around the corner, it might be time to start thinking about preparing your home for spring, and we’ve thought of a few pointers to share with you!

Clean Out Gutters
Often times, spring can be rainy, and you’ll want to ensure your gutters are cleared from the fall leaves and sticks to ensure there are no issues with draining. Take a dry warm day to get ahead of the game and clean out your gutters.

Start Cleaning Out Garden Beds
While it is still too early to plant flowers, shrubs, or vegetables, now is a great time to clean out your garden beds, and rid your beds of old dead vegetation. Since weeds and grass are not ready to grow yet, your work in your garden beds will not be wasted. By cleaning out your beds now, you can jump right in and plant new flowers, shrubs, and vegetables when the time is right, and mulch the rest of the area easily.

Take Inventory of Gardening and Landscaping Tools
Take a few moments to go through your garden shed and ensure everything you need to landscape your yard is there and functional. Check your garden hose for any leaks, take the time to sharpen your lawn mower blade and change the oil. Check prices at your local hardware store now for items you may need to replace or stock up on—you might be surprised to find great deals on lawn and garden equipment in the “off-season”.

Remove Screens and Clean Windows
If you have a nice day where you can afford to have your home’s windows open, take the opportunity to clean the windows inside and out, and remove dirt and insects that may have made their way through the screen but were trapped inside. By cleaning your windows now, you’ll be ready to open them to let in fresh air as the weather warms up!

Schedule Chimney Cleaning and Pressure Washing
Contact your local chimney experts and schedule your spring and summer chimney cleaning and inspection. Many families schedule a chimney sweep in the late spring and summer months when they know they’ll no longer need to use their chimney, so that it is ready to use the following winter. Additionally, many families will be scheduling their homes, decks, patios and sidewalks for pressure washing during the spring months. Get ahead of the crowd and schedule your pressure washing and chimney cleaning now, before time slots fill up.
