Halloween is just around the corner, and soon there will be tiny goblins, beautiful princesses, and scary monsters walking through our neighborhoods with one mission in mind, filling up their candy buckets! There are a few things you can do to ensure the trick-or-treaters in your neighborhood stay safe this year, just around your home and yard.
Ensure All Exterior Lighting is Working Properly
Whether you have a stationary outdoor light, or, a motion-sensor light, be sure that your light is fully functional and is shining over the walkway to your door, or wherever you are planning on passing out candy from.
Remove Any Tree Limbs, Garden Hoses, or Other Debris from Walkways
While you may be used to stepping over your garden hose, or the outdoor run for your dog, people approaching your home for the first time may not notice those obstacles in the walking area. Be sure to clear the walking paths of your home to ensure there are no tripping hazards.
Remove Fallen Leaves from Stairway
Many families use their garage or side-access doors to enter their homes, and their front doors are often not frequently used. If this is the case, be sure to remove leaves from your front door as trick-or-treaters will likely access your home through that entrance, unless directed otherwise.
Contain All Pets Indoors or Away from Approaching Guests
Be sure to restrain your pets inside or away from the reach of trick-or-treaters. While they may be the friendliest of dogs, they could easily be spooked by halloween costumes or decorations. Keep them and trick-or-treaters nearby safe by keeping them contained in a safe space inside your home or away from guests approaching your home.
