The end of the school year is approaching, and for many families, that means moving day is coming, and quickly! Whether you’re moving into your forever home, or even your first home, we’ve compiled a few tips to help make your move seamless.
Clean Out Clutter Before You Pack
Before you start loading up boxes and storage totes to haul to your new home, sort through your belongings and decide what you truly want to move into your new home. Start making piles to donate, sell, or toss, and rid yourself of those items rather than bringing them into your new home. If nothing else, it will be less to unpack, and less clutter around when you move into your new home.
Pack Room by Room
Rather than packing a little bit of each room at a time, go in room by room and pack the entire room, starting with the room that is the least used. For example, if you have a dining area with home decor, table settings, and nice dishes, consider packing that room first, and using a temporary table to eat your meals. When you reach your destination, it will be easy to move each box into the room designated for those items, and unpack them accordingly.
Pack Immediate Need Items Separately
Consider keeping a few boxes separate of items you’ll need immediately in your new home, before you have the chance to unpack the rest of your home. Consider items like towels, sheets and blankets, paper plates, plastic silverware, a few storage containers, paper towels and toilet paper, your coffee maker, phone chargers, television cords and remotes, and any other items you might need on your first few nights in your new home.
Label Each Box with Designated Room and Contents
Be sure to label each box from each room with what room the items belong in, and what each box contains. By doing this, if you’re looking for something in particular, it will be much easier to look at the list of what the box contains on the outside of your box, rather than digging through each individual box to find what you’re looking for.
