Choosing the Floorplan That is Right for You!

When building your next home, there are many things to consider when drawing up your plans. Which siding to consider, which roof will be the most durable, location of your home, how many bathrooms, how many bedrooms., finishes in your kitchen, plus all of the aesthetics like your kitchen style–bold or light? Although there are many things to consider, choosing your floor plan might be one of the biggest of all.

But how do you decide?

First, consider your lifestyle. If your family is fond of entertaining, whether dinner parties, holiday gatherings or even just weekend game nights, consider an open concept to allow space for your friends and family without feeling crowded. An open concept also allows for conversation to flow effortlessly.

Second, consider your future needs. If you are planning on growing your family in the future, consider how many bedrooms you’ll need for your family to fit comfortably. Additionally, ensure your bedrooms are on the same level, especially if you have small children. If you plan on homeschooling or even working from home, consider adding a designated office space that is quiet and removed from the rest of your home. Additionally, you may consider a game room or a play room to accommodate your family’s activities.

Third, consider how much storage you will need. Many families biggest complaints with their homes is that there isn’t enough storage. Determine how much you’ll need for holiday decorations, keepsakes, and any other items that you choose to store throughout the years. If your children are interested in playing sports, consider a storage area to keep gear, uniforms, and any other equipment they may need.

Although there are many other things to consider when determining your future floor plan, this is a great starting point to give you an idea of what you’ll want.
