Fun Things to Do During a Summer Heatwave

Temperatures are back on the rise here in Southern Maryland this weekend and through the middle of next week, expected to reach 90 degrees or higher which can be downright uncomfortable to be in. If you have kids that are getting a little stir-crazy from having to be kept inside, we’ve thought of a few things you can do for fun while staying out of the heat.

Build an Indoor Fort
Gather up the pillows, dining room chairs, blankets, and sheets and build a good old-fashioned fort in your living room. The kids will enjoy being creative in how to construct the fort, and will keep them busy inside. As a bonus, put together a picnic lunch to enjoy inside the fort!

Enjoy a Craft Day
Head to your local crafting/hobby store and pick up a few items to make crafts with at home.

Start School Shopping Early
Feeling a little stir-crazy yourself? Load into the car and start your children’s school shopping a little early. Walking around malls or department stores are a great way to get a bit of exercise in, plus, you won’t feel as rushed at the end of the summer to get it all done.

Have a Movie and Ice Cream Date
Whether you head to the theater and ice cream parlor, or, you watch a movie and have an at-home build your own sundae bar, movies and ice cream in the air conditioning are great ways to beat the heat!
