How to Prepare Your Home for Safe Trick-or-Treating

Halloween is just around the corner and if you’re like us, you love seeing all of your neighborhood children in their scary monster, adorable firefighter and beautiful princess costumes as they go trick-or-treating in the neighborhood. It is all of our duty to make sure our neighbors stay safe while they are out and about with their little ones, and here are a few ways you can help!

Turn on Outside Lights to Prevent Tripping and Falling
No one knows your yard like you know your yard. Whether there is a pesky tree root sticking up a little high or your sidewalk is a little uneven, your neighbors might not be aware, which could end up being a safety hazard. Be sure to turn on all of your outdoor lighting so that your neighbors can see where they are walking when they approach your home.

Sweep Away Leaves and Debris from Sidewalks
The safest bet is for children to walk on the sidewalks, rather than the street! Be sure that the sidewalk outside of your home is clear of debris so that your neighbors can walk easily without having to step foot onto the street.

Ensure Pets are Secured Inside
As loving as they can be, sometimes when faced with someone knocking on their door or approaching their home, dogs can be protective. Keep your pets secured away from the door where you will be distributing candy, just to keep both them and your neighbors safe.
