Preparing Your Home for Fall

Autumn is officially here. Leaves are changing and starting to fall, temperatures are getting cooler, and soon we’ll be preparing for winter. There are a few ways that you can prepare your home for the fall, and we’ve put a checklist together to help keep you organized.

Change Batteries in Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors
Now that the time change is officially behind us, be sure to check the batteries in all of your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors to ensure you’re starting off the season with everything in working order.

Clean and Tune-Up Your Fireplace
Whether you have a wood burning or gas fireplace, now is a great time to ensure it is cleaned and tuned up and ready to use during the colder seasons.

Change HVAC Filters
Clean or change your HVAC filters now to ensure your HVAC system runs efficiently.

Switch Ceiling Fans to Rotate Clockwise
Switch all of your ceiling fans so that they begin rotating clockwise to ensure you’re pushing the warmer air down to keep the heat where you want it.

Stock-Up on Ice Melt, Shovels, and Snow Gear
Now is a great time to stock up on ice melt, snow shovels, and other snow gear, before winter storms are in our forecast and stores are sold out of the gear you need. Having it on hand ahead of time will save you the headache in the long-run.

Prepare Generators for Power Outages
Winter weather often brings inclement weather and sometimes power outages. Be sure to prepare your generators and any other heating devices now to be used this winter.
